Strasburg Railroad offers four versions of their popular Christmas train, each with a different focus.

Santa’s Paradise Express

On this holiday train your family will get up close and personal with the jolly old man himself. Not only will Santa personally visit each train car, children will be thrilled to get a small present from him as well!

Santa’s Paradise Express runs during daytime hours and is perfect for younger children.

Night Before Christmas Train

This unique train experience is offered on select Thursday and Friday evenings in December and is the train experience we chose.

Riding the train at night makes it extra magical and each train car has it’s own host clad in a Victorian cap and gown who will bring Clement Clarke Moore’s The Night Before Christmas Story to life.

After the story, kids and adults alike will enjoy Santa’s favorite snack of milk and cookies and get a quick wave from Santa himself as he rushes through each car on his way to deliver all his Christmas presents.

Christmas Feast

Enjoy a delectable Christmas feast on board one of Strasburg Railroad’s Dining cars!

Ride the train to Leaman Place Grove to personally select your perfect pre-cut Christmas tree.

Once you’ve got just the right tree, railroad staff will assist you in loading your tree on one of the flat bed rail cars to head back to the Strasburg station.

Tips before you Board the Train

WEAR LAYERS! Although the weather outside may be frightful, the pot bellied stoves inside of each train car keep passengers nice and toasty. Emphasis on toasty! Our crew got so warm we actually put the windows down for part of the trip!

REQUEST A CAR! This applies to the Night Before Christmas train only. There is a different host for each train car. After our train ride ended we found out that each host puts their own touches on your Christmas train experience.

Our host played guitar and led us in singing Christmas carols. We are a music loving family so the singing was a highlight for us. Other hosts come from a theatre background and do more acting but no singing.

When we return next year we will be sure to request a train car that includes Christmas carols!

DON’T FORGET THE EXTRAS! It’s important to note that all four Christmas trains also enjoy access to storybook time on Strasburg’s stationary heated caboose and the Tinsel Trolly, a self propelled motor car.

We didn’t realize this and missed both of these attractions on our visit. Since we arrived at 6:30pm (half hour before our departure) we would have had plenty of time to visit the caboose and motor car before boarding our train.

No matter which Strasburg Railroad train experience you choose, you’re sure to create special holiday memories and maybe even start a new Christmas train tradition!
