Best Family Friendly Hotel Chains

When deciding where to stay for your family’s next vacation there are several important amenities to look for before booking your hotel. All hotel chains are not created equal and even those that advertise themselves as “family friendly” don’t always fit the bill.

As a busy mom of a big family, here are the list of questions I use to determine if a hotel will truly fit the needs of my crew!

  1. Can the guest room accommodate more than the standard 4 people?
  2. Is there an indoor/outdoor pool to keep the kids entertained?
  3. Does the free breakfast consist of more than cold bagels and boxed cereal?
  4. Is the wi-fi free so my kids can have downtime on their devices in the evenings?
  5. What about an in-room mini fridge so we can stock it with our own juice and sodas
  6. How about an in-room microwave too so we can pop popcorn for a late night snack or heat up restaurant leftovers?

It can be tedious and time consuming to try and determine which hotel chains offer which amenities. Lucky for you, I’ve compiled a list of hotels that meet all the above criteria and will greatly increase your chance of family vacation success!

Hyatt Place

Hyatt Place tops my list of family friendly hotel chains. Their hotels are sleek and modern and always top notch. Families can comfortably sleep up to six with two Queen beds and a pull out couch that sleeps an additional two.

All Hyatt Place guest rooms feature a 42” flat screen, the luxurious Hyatt Grand Bed® and the surprisingly comfortable Cozy Corner Sofa Sleeper.

You will also find either an indoor or outdoor pool, free wi-fi and large lobby gathering areas if your family wants a larger space to hang out.

Most importantly Hyatt Place offers an impressive complimentary hot breakfast buffet. Their breakfast buffet includes waffles, eggs, bacon and sausage as well as cereal, toast and bagel options. Something to please even your pickiest eater.

Hyatt Place is located in destinations worldwide and is always the first hotel option we look for when planning our travel.

 Embassy Suites

Embassy Suites by Hilton is also a fantastic hotel chain and they take it up a notch by offering two room suites. Families are able to have a bedroom with either a king or two queen beds, in addition to a separate living area with a pull out couch to comfortably sleep 6.

Embassy Suites offers flat screen tv’s in both the bedroom and living area, free wifi, and a full made-to-order breakfast. They also offer an evening reception that includes free drinks and snacks which is a really nice touch.

While most Embassy Suites hotels have either an indoor/outdoor pool, there are some locations that do not so be sure to check before booking! Embassy Suites conveniently has locations in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.

Homewood Suites

Homewood Suites is owned by Hilton and most locations are in the US. They offer many of the same amenities as their Embassy counterparts but set themselves apart by offering 2BR/2BA suites that can sleep up to 8 people. The first bedroom is a King, the second bedroom houses 2 double beds, and there is a sleeper sofa in the living room that sleeps 2.

Another convenient feature of Homewood Suites is that all guest rooms have a full kitchen. This is a huge money saver for families who can prepare their own meals instead of eating out!

Like Embassy, Homewood serves a hot breakfast with lots of food options, has an evening social time that includes snacks and drinks and most locations have either an indoor or outdoor pool. Free wi-fi is also standard.

Residence Inn

Residence Inn by Marriott has several different room configurations and they offer a 2BR option that can accommodate up to 8 people. Like Homewood Suites they also have 2 bathrooms! A big bonus when traveling with a large family.

All locations have either an indoor or outdoor pool, full kitchen, free wi-fi, a free hot breakfast, and upgraded luxury linens all to help to make your stay exceptional.

As an extended stay hotel, Residence Inn has laundry facilities on site, a market, will deliver your groceries for free, and are even pet friendly! With over 700 locations around the world Residence Inn is definitely a family friendly hotel to check out for your next vacation.

Staybridge Suites

Staybridge Suites offer studio, one or two bedroom units. Their 2BR/2BA units are spacious and can sleep up to 8 people and come with a complete kitchen.

There is also onsite laundry, complimentary social hour in the evenings, free wi-fi and as an added bonus Staybridge also offers storage lockers.

Staybridge meets all of our family friendly requirements except for having an indoor or outdoor pool. It’s really hit or miss depending on the hotel location!

As busy parents, we want to keep our vacation planning process as simple as possible. We have enough work in planning and coordinating a getaway, without stressing about which hotels are big enough to accommodate our entire crew. So keep this list of family friendly hotels in mind, simplify your vacation planning, and most importantly enjoy the time away with your loved ones!

I actually really love all these hotels and I don’t even have kids. Homewood Suites is my favorite out of all. My mom and I used to road trip to and from my college back in the day and we would always stop and spend the night at one – we just wanted to have a sleepover, watch the pay per movies and eat room service (IE: food we bought at Whole Foods, lol)
